Looks like it. I tried...

Spotify “doing a Microsoft”? Looks like it. I tried to cancel my Spotify subscription (which takes seconds to sign up to on their website) only to be informed I have to call some hotline and wait in a queue to speak to some sales droid who can “help you with any problems you’ve been having”? No, I’m canceling my subscription because after several weeks of really trying Spotify’s forced facebook integration is just so amazingly annoying I can’t stand using it, so I won’t talk to your sales agent to cancel my subscription. Cancel it online or I’ll talk to my bank you cheeky fucks.

Just to recap, here’s a list of what Spotify has done recently and why they were great, but now are just irritating (on new accounts):

Require facebook integration permanently

Spotify refuses to start if you remove spotify from facebook

Make it incredibly hard NOT to spam facebook with your music

Auto-opt you back in to spamming facebook

Auto-change your “private” mode off to be “helpful” if you don’t listen to music for a few hours

Slurp off all your personal details from facebook

Use more upstream bandwidth than torrenting, why the fuck am I paying £10/month if most of the the bandwidth comes from end users Internet connections? Is it really purely licensing and profit?

Now I don’t know about you but I basically only use facebook so people can invite me to events and my profile is largely blank. Why the fuck does my music player need to know who my friends are to play music? Hint: it fucking doesn’t. Naturally I would have no issues with this at all if you could turn the facebook sharing social wankery off, but you can’t. Requiring me to phone a sales agent to cancel my subscription you can do in seconds online is the last step down the slippery slope into total retardation that Spotify has flopped down lately. Good riddance, I’ll use one of your competitors.

Subtle liberal bias on the BBC

UPDATE: and it’s gone!
I was forwarded this letter from my MP (the letter is addressed to my MP, Emily Thornberry) as the reply from the BIS (Department of Business, Innovation & Skills) written by the Minister for Digital Economy. It seems the UK Minister for Digital Economy, Stephen Timms, doesn’t know what an IP address is.

And we’re meant to trust these people when it comes to regulation of the internet? Complete insanity.

Another amazing Amazon bargain!
